Changes at the Annual General Meeting

You may or not know this but on the 3rd of May at the AGM after 5 years Keith McKerral has stepped down as chairman of Nevis Canoe Club. Hopefully he will remain part of the club, to keep me right for the next year, as I have now taken his place (and have no idea what’s going on).

Compared to most people in the club I am a relatively new member, this being my second year. I am foremost a climber and believe paddling to be the dark side but have succumbed to this. I am very enthusiastic when it comes to outdoor activities and have been for quite some time. I started paddling in Perth College five years ago and currently hold a Level 2 coaching award as well as 4 star river leader and 3 stars in Canoe and Sea Kayaks. If you would like to know more about me go onto my blog www.boistelle.blogspot.com.
Firstly, I would like to organise a get together as an official thank you to Keith for his service to the club. This will be open to members and non-members. This is yet to be organized so watch out for the e-mail!

Weekly trips to the River Garry started last Thursday these will be running every Thursday, I am a regular on the Garry and hope to get more people involved in this. The river will be running until the 25thof October and I want to get on it as many times as possible. Due to work I won’t be able to go this Thursday but I will be there the following Thursday. These trips are not being led by anyone it is just a get together so it is preferred that you would be comfortable on grade 3 water. If you would like to join us the club has plenty of equipment, including boats, and if you’re a member then it is easy to borrowthem for the river trips.
The river will also be running on some Saturdays as well. With the idea that these are going to be led trips. If this becomes quite popular then it could be a good idea in the future to travel to different rivers on Saturdays once or twice a month, if people are up for it.
There is also going to be Sea Paddling, for those that aren’t familiar with this, don’t worry it isn’t real paddling so you can stop reading now (only kidding!). The sea paddling will be on Tuesday’s since the usual organisers for this are busy I will be looking and asking people to get these going again. These trips, are also not being led by anyone it is just a get together so it is preferred that you would be comfortable to look after yourself. Again it is possible to borrow club kit. Once this is sorted I will be posting something so watch this space.

I would really appreciate it if you would let me know if you’re interested in any of the above. Also any help, feedback or ideas with regards to the club would be greatly appreciated. Any goings on I will do my best to keep everyone posted.

Look forward to seeing you on the river,
Graham Boistelle
